“And now wrap into…!” It was just a second and she wrapped herself entirely into her beautiful veil, smiling, holding the position, waiting for the flash. What els could i do ? Okay, i took the shot, the picture was mine again.
You should alway keep in mind the simplicity of the setup. A simple white backdrop, illuminated with a simple old automatic flash set to M, 2 EV more than the main light. Main light again a flash set to M, shot thru a 40 x 60 cm soft box. The complete camera setup as easy as could be 100% in M.

Avoid contact…

No not really. Search for contact and search for intensive eye contact. That is the visible connection from the observer to the emotional layer hidden in the picture. So don’t be shy even if her look is really intensive. You have to stand this. This will build an intensive connection between observer and your work. Thats essential.

What ever you do, where ever you do or if you have an official break or not. If you have the chance to relax, do it. Like she di in this picture. Just seconds to relax but she used them to rearrange her expression, move a little to get into a new position, rethinking the story, what she will tell us in the next picture. Just use the situation and the chance. Like i did to take this picture :)

Sit around …

As i already said earlier, always watch your model, have her in focus whatever she is doing. Even a break should not break your photographic stream. In this example she sits around, arranging hair and i took the picture. She laughed, tried a new look but in the end it was a disaster. The hair looked as if created by electroshock but gave us a new inspiration to do that again in a different set. More on this later.

The needle

Go for details, is one of my often used approaches in shootings to establish an emotional layer with my subject. It is fun and it breaks the ice. You will get laughter and astonished looking model, while you are on the search for some good looking details. But that is all about it. When you concentrate and focus on one detail you will see your subject is focussing as well on this little detail, trying to show it from its best side. A session within a session. This is exciting ! New situations will derive from such “mini-sessions” giving new inspirations to both of you.

The only thing you have to do is to look ! Just open your view and detect details while working on the complete scene.
In this case, she was the initial factor. Always trying to fix that needles in her hair, preventing them from falling to the ground. “Pling” it made and it was again on the ground. So we made it the center of a mini-shoot and got a lot of new ideas for the planned shooting. Altering the flow with that new ideas. And got new ideas for an alternative shooting based on that tiny needle…

All done with Olympus E-M5, Summilux 25, f1.4 ISO250, 1/160 second and one remote triggered flash with 1/32 power and bounced !!!
