Another example from the ongoing series “The girl from Udaipur” This time in massive black and white. Bold contrast, diffused structures and details while shooting thru glass and a glasspattern as overlay to get a scratched effect to the picture. Yes, it is hard to do such to a picture so wonderful sharp and rich in details but this is wanted to get a painterly effect.

“I am ready in a second…” Thats what girls alway say. But we know, that is NOT the truth. So i tried to visualize her hurry, her speed to dress AND to look beautiful. And i guess she is more interested in looking good than in being in time …

As said before, do not ask too much. Your job is not asking questions but taking pictures. So, even when she is moving, arranging herself or her dress or whatsoever, shoot ! If some of the taken pictures do not match your taste or hers you can eliminate them later on before processing them. So have fun and do what you can do: Shoot the moment and enjoy it.

That was all i said: “Give me a smile” And here you see what she did with my words. Just a smile and while she did so, she arranged herself into another position. All that fabrics and veils moving around, making noise, a rustle in my ears. Good noise indeed. And suddenly she stopped and the smile was on her face, the window light as well and the only thing to do: Press the button, take your picture please. Sounds easy, but it is a little more, it is work.

The decision to take a picture or not is often a question of a second. Not driven by rational thinking but done by emotional things. The base on which your finger decides to press the shutter is a feeling not a thought. As in this picture. The only thing i did was talking with the model, joking, adjusting the cam for the next scene and she, just girl, playing around with the given veils and fabrics. The decision to press the button, to shoot the scene, i think, was driven by her facial expression within a second, and thru the way she looked thru the veil. So what… i took the scene to photographic memory :)
