Spring is all around us and we can see it, feel, it, even taste it. But have a close look to your garden. Something is happening there as well. See the skeleton blooms, the dead, the frozen plants. Yes, they are dead but still beautiful and full of grace. It will not last for long and they are food for bugs and their kiddies and new blooms will arise as well.

Wake up little Dragon

Thousands of of visitors, crowed on the frozen beach of Zingst, waiting for the grand opening of the “Umweltfotofestival” which is an spectacular laser and firework show. It has now about -20°C, we all wrapped in layers of anti-freeze materials. 3 pairs of gloves on the fingers, 3 Jackets, two pairs of shoes, lots of Wodka. And here it comes: The awake of the Dragon, heading for the sky…

The Dragon is alive

And the Dragon is alive and dancing in the night with fire and sparkles all over the dark sky. The crackling sound of its fire, the smell and the thunder is all over us in the dark. We stand still, deeply impressed, watching the dance of the Dragon. That was the grand opening of the “Umweltfotofestival in Zingst” The lightdance of elements. A fantastic laser and firework show in the night with about -20°C on the frozen beach. It was an outstanding experience.

Time for …

Time for what ?? Rethinking ? Recalibrate and do different things. Today i watched dancing trees in the wind and thought it is time for dancing trees watched thru frozen windows.

And here they are – 5 Minutes of works later- 7 Layers of compositions, a little play with structures and opacities. No secrets.

What if you walk over the frozen river, it is early morning, the soft and pale sun just kissing the snowy ice. You are all alone and in the middle of the river when it suddenly happens. The ice cracks. Just a second, a heartbeat later you are 100% down into the cold icy water, the river tears you underneath the ice, far away from where you broke thru. No chance at all. No one there to help you. No one could hear your under water screaming, your fight against the hard ice, against the cold water tearing you more and more under the frozen ice mantle. No one could see your eyes so wide opened full of anxiety until the finger of death touches you, calming you down….

Hours later the tragedy is discovered by some skaters. Finding your body under the ice

Both pictures are made of 6 layers, blended together. Starting material was done with: Olympus E-P3, ISO200, Summilux 25, F2, 1/80 second. No flash used here but some PP with simply opacity and mask adjustments…. have a try. One final word : The model is 100% healthy, she was never under the frozen ice of a river :)

Out for a walk

Out for a walk. Even in very cold weather. Take your “always with you camera” with your “walk around lens” on it it and simply do it. Go and look for your pictures.

In this picture you see a frozen river which was last time frozen 15 years ago. I went onto the ice and had some sweet hours trying NOT to crash on that slippery ice. That was fun ! I did it in the early morning, so just a few other persons were on ice too. When i left, the river was crowed with thousand and thousands of people.

Olympus E-P3, ISO 400, f6-3, 1/250 second, Zuiko 12 mm. No flash here. But manual exposure to get the right overall exposure settings.
