Ever thought about the old classic painters ?? And ever tempted to use the “oil filter” in Photoshop ?? Do not do that. Use some layers instead and the make the Glow effect work for you. It is easier you may think. Give it a try and your normal pictures may get that “boom, boom” effect as well.

Although fully equipped with everything she need for her job as an angel, she is indeed looking sad. Perhaps her emotions regarding her next job ?? What is the valid reason for her sadness ? What is her next job ? What to do releasing such emotions ? And, will she execute the job ??

And thats the point: A story in a picture. If something is happening in your head while looking at a picture, than the pictures works… Its is up to YOU producing speaking pictures. Those are the pictures which will be looked at all the time even years later.

Be bold, try it. Do not think and ask yourself what others may say when they view your pictures. They is NOT made for them, but it is an expression from you, out of you. A way you felt in that moment. Thats why i show this to you. So be bold and strong.

Expression and close to the subject, working with a full frame. That is what i often say is a key point producing impressive portraits. Catching the mood of a subject, steering the model into a special emotional state during talking with her, what you want to see, want to catch.

Such cost some preparation, for sure. You have to think on what you want to say, want to ask, You have to work on your own expression. You will be so close to your subject, that you are the mirror to her soul. So be aware of this, always ! And a bit of post processing is the normal way :)

While searching for the light, flagging it, steering it to where you want it to be, have a close look to the dark parts, to the shadows. Maybe you discover a gem… like me. So do not hesitate, take the chance and a picture as well. Put it together with what you already learned about composing, creating analog film look and give it a special look. That is all about it. OK, crop it if you need to do so but never change the mood of the picture. Always remember YOUR mood, your feeling when you took the photo. Such should show up in the final work as well.
