Be prepared. Always try to train what you want to do in an upcoming shooting. Try to train the scene and even make a try-on session with your model. It is essential to be sure that everyone knows what to do an how to do ! When the set comes to live there is no room for asking “How …?” Such a try-on session gives you an idea how complicted things can be. See this picture. It look simple to attach the crown to her hair. But when she practices her dance moves we saw it sliding away. Great laughter. Fortunately we were prepared. A handful of needles did the job and everything was fine and fixed. So the session could go on without any trouble.

Just have an eye on your subject and watch what she is doing. Even in the preparation time before or just after a shooting sequence.

In this case she was rearranging the needle again. You know already that needle which often fall down to ground and became a main actor in the shooting scene. Here she is trying to fix it again before she gave up and tranformed the accessory part into a main actor ! And agoin no tricks in here. Just the Olympus E-M5, Summilux 25, f1.4, ISO200, 1/100 second and no flash was used… and i made a decision to convert it into b&w to get the even more dramatic touch focussed on her hand and the needle itself.

At last, she did what an Angel of Revenge always does: Its bloody job…. But keep in mind: None was really hurt, just a bit of PP. Artificial blood !

All girls want to be like an angel…. :) But some really are ! So show it. Sometimes it is the angel of revenge, sometimes the angel with a needle, ready to attack. Just smiling but the needle is in her hand …

and suddenly she hides her wings behind her, fixing you with her tight view and is aiming at you. Look out !

That´s what girls are. The complete storyboard can change within a second and it is your task to make the best out of it. To show her from her best side. Do not start discussing, you will loose … for sure. In consequence she will raise up, annoyed, leaving the scenery. So what ?? Just accept and do your job. And it is pure excitement being confronted with a new story at all. So be creative, be inspired … :) It is all about fun.

One example here: We planned to do some snaps with Taro cards, pink veils, red fabric on the wooden ground. Everything was fine, when she suddenly started a flirt with the cam !! Should i stop her ?? No…. never….give room for new ideas ! And i had a smile in my face. While acting, she always lost one of her long, metal needles, used to fix her wild hair into position. We took that and created another story around that needle….and while working on the needle theme the Angel of Revenge came to our minds…. Yes that was a successful shooting day.

Yes she knows how to play that roles …And again it was all done with: Olympus E-M5, Zuiko 45mm, f1.8, ISO200, 1/100 second and only one single flash set to 1/32 power…. and a little bit of post processing

OMG, she did it …. and it hurts…and she smiled and had fun, fun, fun …. :) Look at the needle… see the blood… feel the pain. She is so cruel, indeed, a hellion !

Okay, it is all PP, no one was hurt. Its all OK :)

Yeah, stick me, don´t hurt me too much…. That is what you may get, when your subject is going to use the details you found. Encouraging her to play with this needle, gives interessting expressions and moods …. and YES i played a bit with the WB settings to achieve the slightly blue atmosphere

Go for details, is one of my often used approaches in shootings to establish an emotional layer with my subject. It is fun and it breaks the ice. You will get laughter and astonished looking model, while you are on the search for some good looking details. But that is all about it. When you concentrate and focus on one detail you will see your subject is focussing as well on this little detail, trying to show it from its best side. A session within a session. This is exciting ! New situations will derive from such “mini-sessions” giving new inspirations to both of you.

The only thing you have to do is to look ! Just open your view and detect details while working on the complete scene.
In this case, she was the initial factor. Always trying to fix that needles in her hair, preventing them from falling to the ground. “Pling” it made and it was again on the ground. So we made it the center of a mini-shoot and got a lot of new ideas for the planned shooting. Altering the flow with that new ideas. And got new ideas for an alternative shooting based on that tiny needle…

All done with Olympus E-M5, Summilux 25, f1.4 ISO250, 1/160 second and one remote triggered flash with 1/32 power and bounced !!!
